Audiometry courses

We've developed a suite of occupational audiometry courses specifically for occupational health and primary care professionals. The goal is to provide the necessary skills to conduct quality hearing assessments for employees frequently exposed to noise. Ensuring regular hearing checks can be performed to monitor hearing health as part of a hearing surveillance programme.

Learning outcomes

By the end of each audiometry course delegates should be able to:

  1. Have a foundational understanding of acoustics, and anatomy and physiology of the ear.
  2. Understand hearing loss, the legislature surrounding this, and factors affecting testing accuracy.
  3. Conduct a complete audiological assessment. Including a preparatory questionnaire, otoscopy, instructing the subject, and conduct a manual pure tone air conduction audiometric test.
  4. Be confident and competent when interpreting audiometric data. Along with the subsequent implications on a client’s health, including categorising results in-line with HSE 2005 guidance.
  5. Provide advice to clients about the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  6. Understand what's needed to organise and run an audiometry surveillance programme. Including retaining GDPR compliant records, retrieving data, and compiling a standard audit of audiometric data.
